Funmi (Foo-mee) is a licensed graduate professional counselor and psychology associate with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and additional doctoral level training.
Her approach to therapy is grounded in client-centered and interpersonal therapies, while incorporating cognitive behavioral and acceptance and commitment interventions. She works from the belief that clients are the experts of their own lives and believes her role is to create a safe and supportive space where she and her clients can collaborate on developing goals and implementing a plan for change. As part of this plan, clients may develop and/or improve skills in mindfulness, emotion management, thought flexibility, self-motivation, values-based actions and self-compassion. She also integrates family, multicultural and feminist theories in her approach to address the roles of family of origin, faith, relationships, culture, physical ability, society, race, age, and nationality play in her clients’ lives as they explore presenting concerns and plans for change.
